Reading Roadtrip: Alaska

Literally it took me 5 hours to finish this award-winning book. My latest reading road trip adventure took me to the tundras of Alaska as I lived with Julie in Julie of the Wolves.

Here's the quick rundown on the book:

Julie, also known as Miyax, escapes a scary marriage and ends up surviving on the tundra with a pack of wolves. The book is full of rich detail and intriguing story lines. The wolves are real characters, human-like in fact. They all have personalities that make them funny and interesting.

The author, Jean Craighead George, creates a timeless story of survival and tradition. Julie/Miyax is torn between the old ways of the Eskimos and the new ways that technology is bringing to her small area. It's a growing up story as well as a childhood classic. It's no wonder that Julie of the Wolves  has been awarded the Newbery Medal.

The book was short and easy to read, making it the perfect thing to relax with on a hot Saturday afternoon. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a light read this summer. It might also make the perfect bedtime story for children.

My next state...ARIZONA!
